Diving into the fascinating world of stop motion during a memorable day at the former MIN site in Nantes, discovering the cinematic art of stop motion, and unleashing their creativity in a professional film studio: that was the experience offered to our bachelor students.

All enriched by the exploration of an inspiring journey — that of Joachim, a talented director.

In Nantes, an extraordinary day dedicated to stop motion — a captivating form of cinematic animation — allowed first-year students to explore a world of imagination and innovation. This creative adventure took place in the former cold-storage facilities of the MIN de Nantes.

An initiation journey guided by experts

The journey began with a tour of the premises, led by Marine, production director and head of the Motion Lab, accompanied by Shoob and Joachim, seasoned author and director. Joachim shared his professional journey with passion, detailing how he fell in love with stop motion, and gave an overview of his craft.

He explained various techniques for creating stop motion works.

Late in the morning, Joachim unveiled his latest stop motion film, "Écorchée", a personal work inspired by a childhood nightmare. He shared the emotions and the message he sought to convey through the piece, highlighting artistic expression as a means of overcoming one's fears.

The discussion that followed allowed participants to ask questions and explore Joachim's creative world further.

The afternoon was devoted to hands-on practice, with Marine and Chub' guiding students in creating their own stop motion videos.

They presented work from other groups to inspire the students and provided clear guidelines for their own creations. A professional film studio was set up with all the necessary equipment, including templates, magnets, examples, computers, backdrops, cameras, and software.

Finally, at the end of the day, a showcase session allowed students to present their work and share their experiences from this unforgettable day.

The event was an opportunity for everyone to develop their creativity and live an immersive experience in the fascinating world of stop motion.

This stop motion day was an exceptional opportunity for students to discover and explore a captivating artistic field, drawing inspiration from Joachim's journey and putting their creative skills into practice in a professional environment.

An unforgettable experience that opened the door to artistic expression and the discovery of new cinematic perspectives.
