Digital Campus is taking on the challenge for 2018: positioning itself as a responsible digital school. The first step was choosing what "responsible" should mean. Possible themes included ecology, health, and more. We turned to disability and its inclusion in the digital world — and through digital tools.
Disability in the digital sector can refer to the adaptation of websites for people with disabilities (visually impaired, deaf, etc.), as well as the solutions developed by startups aimed at making daily life easier for people with disabilities or helping them enter the workforce.
This initiative takes shape through numerous encounters between students and guest speakers during Digidej and Digitime events. During the first semester of 2018, the following sessions are planned:
- On 7 February, a Digitime session will take place with Alicia Jaconelli, a Master's Year 2 student. She will address digital accessibility awareness — a topic she had previously presented during DC Teach sessions (peer-led classes among Master's students).
- On 15 February, a conference is scheduled: Draw Me a Digital Career. This event will be held at La Cantine at the Quai des Savoirs. Many key players in Toulouse's digital sector will be present, including people with disabilities.
- During February, a Digidej will be hosted by Jean Christophe Trouilhet, a software developer at the company Kaliente. He is visually impaired but works in development. He will share the challenges he faces at work and how digital technology supports him in his role.
- On 14 March, workshops will be held on the theme: "Best practices in accessible web coding". These workshops are aimed at DC1 and DC2 students and will take place at the Institut des Jeunes Aveugles (Institute for Young Blind People) in Toulouse.
