It's time to update the postcard image of the Basque Country and its folksy clichés.
The Basque Country has real talent, is evolving rapidly, and is attracting a growing number of innovative companies, freelancers, and startups. It already has hectares of innovation to show for it.
The Basque Country as a "territory of excellence and innovation in the digital field"
The Basque Country's digital ecosystem is built on the Lanazia business nursery in Ascain and the highly attractive IZARBEL site in Bidart — 20 hectares dedicated to cutting-edge digital technology, home to 110 companies with more than 1,000 employees, an incubator, a startup nursery, three business hotels, and an engineering school (ESTIA – École Supérieure des Technologies Industrielles Avancées).
These facilities foster genuine synergy and strong potential for business development, so much so that a 15-hectare extension is planned in Bidart. This attractiveness is driven not only by the presence of the technopole, research platforms, and potential scientific partnerships, but also by enhanced productivity thanks to a high quality of life and very short commute times.
A quality of life that encourages remote work and digital nomadism
The quality of life in the Basque Country makes it an ideal location for remote workers, digital nomads, and companies looking to set up. This reality is very much alive at Le Connecteur in Biarritz — an 8,000 square metre coworking space that has been welcoming a large number of businesses for three years, with the motto "Work where you want to live".
Furthermore, the Pays Basque Digital cluster, which gave rise to French Tech Pays Basque, is the professional network of digital sector players in the Basque Country and the Pays de l'Adour region. It represents 1,500 skilled jobs generating 150 million euros in revenue. With over 60 members, Pays Basque Digital brings together companies specializing in high-value digital services: software publishers, security specialists, service integrators, data centers, web agencies, pure players, and startups (AI, connected devices, etc.). The cluster's goal is to "contribute to positioning the Basque Country as a territory of excellence and innovation in the digital field." This group of companies also considers "talent recruitment as a key driver of business growth."
A natural fit for Digital Campus to establish itself in the Basque Country
Our Digital Campus school in the Basque Country is a member of this highly active cluster, which shapes a shared vision among its member companies — encompassing initiatives around responsible digital practices and eco-design in particular, as well as cybersecurity.
The Basque campus has also committed to this same direction, and we are determined to train our students in best practices in close contact with local businesses and associations. We are truly part of an ecosystem here that stands for shared values, and we want to work with all stakeholders in the region to co-build what comes next...
