Product Owner at Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, Aurélien explains his day-to-day responsibilities and what drives him in his work.
Based in Rennes, Aurélien shares his experiences from his third-year intensive programme at Digital Campus through to his Brand Content Master's degree. He highlights his most memorable moments, favourite subjects, and how the school prepared him for the professional world.
Your journey at Digital Campus?
I studied at Digital Campus in Rennes from 2018 to 2021, joining the third year "Prépa DC" programme after completing a two-year university technology degree (DUT) in computer science. This allowed me to go on to the Brand Content Master's degree following an intensive year of web training that included an end-of-year internship.
What I remember most is the great atmosphere, the recurring group mini-projects, and the closeness between staff and guest lecturers — it was a very supportive environment! My favourite courses were probably the marketing modules, especially strategic marketing, which gave me a new professional direction and a better understanding of product design…
Were you well prepared for the professional world?
Yes, the key advantage of the programme for me was completing the Master's degree through a work-study contract. The Digital Campus team supported us both in finding internships and work-study placements, and throughout our lives as student employees. Since most modules were taught by industry professionals, having their real-world experience and feedback during classes was a definite bonus. On top of that, the DC Start project — an entrepreneurial initiative running throughout the programme — gave us a real taste of the professional world.
What does your job involve?
I am a Product Owner at Crédit Mutuel Arkéa. My role involves managing IT projects around one or more products and defining a vision and direction for them. I act as the link between client requests and the development team I work with on a daily basis. I am responsible for prioritising the various topics within an agile framework.
On a day-to-day basis, my main responsibilities include:
- Scoping and prioritising new client requests
- Managing the request backlog
- Monitoring the performance of the products I oversee
- Reporting to governance bodies (budget, planning, etc.)
- Facilitating project and client committees
- Data analysis
What excites you most about the digital world?
My role allows me to take on a wide variety of tasks spanning both IT and finance, which is incredibly stimulating. The project management aspect also means I get to meet many people from different professional backgrounds, which is equally enriching.
Do you have any advice for our students?
For me, it is essential to take an interest in digital culture — the different jobs, the different fields. Try everything that interests you so you can gain confidence and find your professional direction. Don't hesitate to start projects in your own time, reach out to your lecturers, or even interview professionals in the field.
