Digital Campus Paris offered 100 students a workshop on responsible digital technology.
In April, around a hundred third-year Bachelor's students embarked on this project alongside 6 guest experts, with the mission of thoroughly auditing 16 websites.
The module was coordinated by Stéphanie Moittié, Consultant-Trainer in responsible marketing and digital technology and founder of the URVAD project. During this week, five expert speakers in digital eco-design covered different professional fields:
- Corinne Leulier, frog, part of Capgemini Invent, Design Director
- Justine Zitouni-Tinlot, Davidson Consulting, Product Owner
- Laurence Frémont, Blob Design, Creative Designer
- Tanguy Le Duff, MEGA International, Lead UX/UI Designer
- Johann Besse, Davidson Consulting, Chief Digital Information Officer
To begin with, it was necessary to address the theory and framing of what responsible digital technology is and how it is practised. Students were able to exchange with the experts on climatic and sociological issues, as well as the methods for learning to measure the environmental impact of a website, without compromising the final quality of an eco-designed digital service.
The foundation of the module was structured around 4 pillars: raising awareness of planetary boundaries, understanding the social and environmental impacts of digital technology, Corporate Digital Responsibility (CDR) and responsible digital practice, as well as work on the circularity and eco-design of digital services based on their particular life cycle; and finally, creating a positive impact through tech projects serving the common good, with examples drawn from impact-driven start-ups.
The second part of the workshop was dedicated to website eco-design, based on 16 real-world cases put forward by Stéphanie Moittié.
The goal by the end of the workshop: to carry out a website audit of pre-selected companies using diagnostic tools, while following three main directives:
- Reduce the volume of data transmitted
- Optimise the usage time of digital services
- Ensure greater compatibility with older devices (4 years and older)
Each student group had the opportunity to bring their different areas of expertise (UX, UI, MD, DEV and WM) to the analysis phase of the website assigned to them. A total of 60 deliverables were produced, including homepage mock-ups, site maps, wireframes, user journeys, and improvement recommendations aimed at reducing the carbon footprint on the environment.
At the end of this workshop, two proposals pitched over 10 minutes were particularly well received by the jury. These will shortly be presented to the respective companies.
Congratulations to Léa Deroir, Angela Merquita, Akmaral Kurmankalevia, Victor Rolland, Kelvin Commande, Axel Mampiono, Agathe Remeyse, Ethan Marchand, Samuel Ndjouli, Lucas Guillon, Paulo Dias, and Camille Teixeira for their projects!
