Discover the testimony of Erwan Tanguy, instructor at Digital Campus Rennes.
What is your background?, I studied performing arts through to a master's degree, then worked in theatre for about ten years before getting more seriously into web professions, which I had already been exploring by building websites., I do a lot of corporate training in social media, web writing, monitoring, and sometimes more technical topics (CSS, jQuery…). I work as a consultant on digital strategy, web communication, visibility, and SEO. I also occasionally write web content., How do you perceive the Digital Campus training program?, Digital Campus is a demanding institution that trains the next generation of web professionals. It is a place with a bright future in Rennes, and I think it is important to be part of it.
What do you want to pass on to your students?, I want to share as much as possible with them — so they don't waste time where I did, and so they keep their curiosity alive. The web is still a field where passion matters greatly., What career prospects do your students have?, They are varied and there to be built. French companies are far behind on the web. Even today, many still don't have a website, when they should already be rolling out a full digital strategy. By the time they do, the web will have moved on further. This gap will be filled by the new generation, who will bring their knowledge and experience into businesses., Job opportunities in social media management, project management, monitoring, content creation, and of course SEO should continue to grow, as the need is real., How would you define your specialty?, I have several specialties around monitoring, web-native content writing, SEO, and social media. I have a particular preference for complex automation setups for content distribution or data retrieval in a monitoring context. Using a tool like Yahoo! Pipes opens up a wide range of data-related possibilities., What is your working method?, It depends on the project. Analysing the starting situation is important to me — it's the foundation on which I build my proposals and the project itself., What tools do you use?, I use many tools that evolve as my practices and the landscape change. From automation tools to data management and retrieval tools — it's quite broad and requires constant monitoring and regular practice.
