Portrait of Sylvain Coudert, instructor at Digital Campus Bordeaux.
What is your background?, I am a freelance web designer, integrator, and 3D graphic artist, and I work as a teacher and trainer in various higher education schools in 2D/3D Computer Graphics, web design, web projects, etc., At Digital Campus, I teach Flash AS2/AS3 courses focused on the web, CMS (WordPress, Joomla), and After Effects. My philosophy — more than just a teaching approach — is Learning by Doing. I try to get students to discover my subjects through a hands-on approach., By the end of their first year, a student should have a solid grounding in design logic and programming so they can build on it throughout their future career. For example, they are able to understand this Flash code intuitively: if( ( student == 'passionate' ) || ( student == 'curious' ) ) { gotoAndPlay('2ndYearEasy') ; } By the end of their second year, they should be almost fully autonomous while being able to cross-reference their various courses. Concretely, they can then composite a person into an After Effects video, play it within a Flash animation that interacts with their own WordPress and Joomla themes created from scratch. The difference between this school and others is that here the instructors and teachers are all practising professionals., We focus on the real world (projects, guest speakers, etc.) rather than a traditional course that must be validated by another before moving on to the next… Students learn everything they need in a professional yet pleasant environment so that, once they graduate, they can enter the workforce directly. A great project with my students? The Rallye des Gazelles project, where in my part the students had to do the web design and development of a site using the CMS WordPress.
